About
Hi,
I'm Niko, founder of Drone-Check.
In 2025, I developed Drone-Check after repeatedly experiencing interruptions during my drone flights, often by police or bystanders who simply lacked clear information about what was happening.
I was looking for a way to inform people proactively or ad hoc about my activities, without causing disturbance or violating privacy.
What started as a personal solution quickly proved its value in real-world use. Drone-Check makes it possible to communicate transparently and calmly about drone operations, helping to avoid misunderstandings and unnecessary interruptions. What I initially built for myself is now available to everyone and I’m happy to share it with you.Drone-Check is a neutral, privacy-first platform designed to serve all stakeholders around drone activity — from citizens on the ground to professional and enterprise operators, and the platforms that support them.
Use of the public website will always remain free.
Who is Drone-Check for
1. Citizens & the General Public
For anyone who sees a drone in the sky and wants clarity.
Drone-Check allows citizens to quickly look up active or planned drone flights in their area. It provides clear, limited, and relevant information about what is flying, when, and why — without exposing personal data.
The goal is transparency, reassurance, and trust — not surveillance.
Access to this information via the website is completely free and will remain so.
2. Recreational & Semi-Professional Drone Pilots
For pilots who want to fly responsibly, without friction.
Recreational and semi-professional pilots can announce flights quickly and easily via the website or mobile app. Creating and managing flights via the website is free of charge.
Flights can be created:
- Ad hoc (just before take-off)
- Proactively (planned in advance)
The platform is designed to be fast, lightweight, and respectful of privacy, helping pilots communicate their presence while staying focused on the flight itself.
3. Enterprise Operators (API Flight Publishing & Live tracking)
For organizations that operate drones at scale.
Enterprise users with recurring operations can integrate directly with Drone-Check via the API to automatically publish flights from their own systems.
This removes manual work and ensures consistent, structured, and compliant communication of drone activity.
API-based access is intended for professional and enterprise use cases.
For professional operations that require real-time visibility.
Beyond flight publishing, enterprise users can optionally enable live tracking, allowing real-time position updates to be visualized on Drone-Check via MQTT.
This supports:
- Operational transparency
- Public reassurance
- Internal monitoring or coordination
Live tracking is optional, controlled, and designed with strict data-minimization principles.
4. Third-Party Platforms & Integrations
For ecosystems that want to include drone awareness.
Drone-Check also serves as a data source for other platforms. Through controlled access, third-party applications — such as pilot tools, planning software, or situational awareness systems — can retrieve basic flight data and integrate it into their own workflows or maps.
This enables a broader ecosystem where drone activity is visible, predictable, and responsibly shared.
In essence
Drone-Check is not about monetizing visibility for the public. The website remains free and open, while advanced automation, integrations, and live data services are offered for professional and enterprise use.
