Why Drone-Check uses one main app (and what this means for iOS & Android)
At Drone-Check, we want to keep our focus on what truly matters: a reliable, privacy-first tool that always works and always stays up to date. That’s why we use the installable web app as our primary app for announcing flights: www.drone-check.eu/add
What is a web app?
A web app is essentially the Drone-Check website, but installed on your smartphone. It runs fullscreen, has its own app icon, and behaves just like a traditional app — without requiring an app store.
In many cases, a web app is equally capable or even better than platform-specific apps:
• always the latest version
• no manual updates
• no app store review delays
• less dependency on platform rules
How do you install the Drone-Check web app?
On iPhone (Safari):
1. Open Drone-Check in Safari
2. Tap Share
3. Select Add to Home Screen
On Android (Chrome):
1. Open Drone-Check in Chrome
2. Tap Install or Add to Home Screen
Once installed, Drone-Check appears on your home screen just like any other app.
The web app can also be easily installed on your controller via Wi-Fi.
If your controller has Wi-Fi or 4G connectivity during the flight, you can start flights directly from the controller.
Why this approach?
In practice, we currently maintain three versions:
• the web app
• the iOS app
• the Android app
This means triple development, testing, and updating — plus dependency on app store reviews and timing. To avoid feature delays or differences between platforms, we choose to make the web app our central version.
Important: The iOS and Android apps will remain available and supported. They work well and remain fully usable. However, due to the additional overhead, we cannot always guarantee the same update speed or feature completeness as the web app.
For users who prefer native apps, they remain a valid option. For users who want the most up-to-date and future-proof experience, the Drone-Check web app is the best choice.
This way, Drone-Check stays simple, transparent and productive for everyone.
